Andy Pycroft to Officiate India vs Pakistan Super Fours Clash Despite Handshake Row

Andy Pycroft will once again take charge as match referee when India vs Pakistan meet in the Asia Cup 2025 Super Fours clash on Sunday in Dubai.

The ICC has stood behind Andy Pycroft all along.

The appointment comes despite the handshake controversy from the September 14 group game. During that match, Pycroft reportedly asked captains Salman Agha and Suryakumar Yadav not to shake hands at the toss. The PCB had even demanded his “immediate removal.”

But the ICC has retained Pycroft. The move signals confidence in the veteran referee while keeping the focus on the cricket rather than off-field drama.

The earlier episode spilled over into Pakistan’s next match against the UAE, delaying the start by an hour after backroom talks. A late meeting between Pycroft and Pakistan’s team management helped defuse tensions just before the toss.

Now, the scene shifts to the Dubai International Stadium. Suryakumar Yadav has stressed that India are focused on cricket, not controversy.

“We’re focusing on what we can do best. We want to follow the good habits we’ve built in the last two-three games. Whoever plays well will win,” Suryakumar said on Saturday.

India wrapped up their group fixture against Oman on Friday night and returned to Dubai in the early hours. They’ll have an optional training session on Saturday. Pakistan, meanwhile, plan a full training session at the ICC Academy ahead of Sunday’s match.

This high-voltage India vs Pakistan Super Fours encounter promises not just cricketing fireworks but also another test of composure for players and officials alike.
