The official charge was taken by him from Sri Lanka’s Shammi Silva earlier this week. The position of PCB chairman was given to Naqvi in February 2024. The ACC appointment was described by him as a “deeply honored” milestone in his cricket journey. It was stated by Naqvi in a press release that “Asia is the heartbeat of world cricket.” He pledged to strengthen ties between all member boards. Naqvi aims to grow the game’s global reach and fanbase.
He also thanked Silva for his contributions to Asian cricket. “Together, we will unlock new opportunities for cricket in Asia,” Naqvi added. He emphasized collaboration, innovation, and cricket development across the region. The ACC will focus on boosting tournaments and bilateral cricket ties. Silva had taken charge as ACC President in December 2024. He stepped in after Jay Shah resigned to lead the ICC. “It was a privilege to lead the ACC,” Silva said. He praised member boards for raising ACC’s influence in Asia. Silva also thanked Jay Shah for his guidance and vision. He expressed full confidence in Naqvi’s capable and progressive leadership.
Naqvi’s Power Play
Naqvi Balances ACC Role with PCB and Government Duties Mohsin Naqvi now adds ACC President to his growing list of key responsibilities. He already serves as PCB Chairman and Pakistan’s Interior Minister. Naqvi played a central role in Champions Trophy 2025 hosting discussions. Pakistan strongly pushed to host the full ICC event on home soil.
ACC Awaits Crucial Venue Decision
Asia Cup 2025 Venue Decision Awaits ACC President Naqvi As ACC chief, Naqvi now faces a major test with the T20 Asia Cup 2025. India holds the official hosting rights for the Asia Cup this year. However, the PCB may demand a different venue for Pakistan’s matches. Security and political tensions could again lead to a hybrid tournament model. This situation has precedent in ACC tournament planning. A hybrid model was used in 2023 during Jay Shah’s tenure. Pakistan hosted initial matches, while Sri Lanka hosted later rounds. India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan shaped that dual-venue approach.
