Irfan Hashmi is a dedicated pharmacist, healthcare innovator, and community leader with a passion for enhancing access to healthcare services, particularly in rural and remote areas of Australia. With a distinguished career spanning pharmacy practice, professional training, and community engagement, Irfan has consistently championed initiatives that bridge gaps in the healthcare system.
As a pharmacist and mentor, Irfan has played a pivotal role in training overseas-qualified pharmacists to meet Australian standards. Through the Multicultural Australian Pharmacy Foundation (MAPF), he has led efforts to prepare over 170 internationally trained pharmacists for long-term service in regional and remote communities, addressing critical workforce shortages.
Irfan’s advocacy extends beyond the pharmacy sector. He has actively engaged with policymakers and healthcare stakeholders to push for sustainable workforce solutions. Recently, he presented his pharmacist training initiative to Chris Picton, SA Minister for Health and Wellbeing, at the Australian Chinese Medical Association Lunar New Year 2025 event. His proposal, aimed at integrating skilled pharmacists into underserved areas, received encouraging interest from government officials.
